German Regulators Order Facebook to Change Data Collection Practices

On Feb. 7, the German Federal Cartel Office (FCO), the Bundeskartellamt, imposed far-reaching restrictions on Facebook's processing of user data. The action followed several years of investigations and an announcement earlier in the year that such a decision would be coming. The FCO is Germany's independent anti-trust regulator.

Amazon recently sent a German man someone else's data in response to his personal data request, made in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Amazon blamed it on "human error."  By blaming it on human error, Amazon is trying to imply this is an isolated case.
